Principal’s Message

03 Mar

Kia Ora Tatou, Greetings to all

Dear Parents

With the recent events in Christchurch, I would like to remind parents and caregivers that tomorrow, Friday 4 March 2011, we are joining with the other Auckland schools to hold a red and black day to raise funds for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.  We would like children to come to school wearing something red and black and bring a gold coin for the coin trail.

New Property Developments
We are very pleased with the progress that has been made in the Library, Resource Room and Awhina space.  This has created a very pleasant area for both staff and children to work in.

We will now be focussing on making improvements to the Senior Corridor.  This part of the school was built in 1975 and the Ministry of Education has provided us with the funding to remodel this area.  The children who have classrooms in this area will be moved and relocated for four weeks in other rooms in the school as detailed below –
• Room 1, Corinna Raasch will go to Room 21
• Room 5, Trisha Dennis will go to Room 22
• Room 2, Jennie Adlam will go to the Awhina space
• Room 4, Innes Jephson/Denise Morris’ class will be moving to and sharing the very large new Library space with Room 3, Martha McFaul.  These three teachers team teach at the moment and will continue to do so.

The move will take place on Monday 14 March, Week 7 and the building work on the Senior Corridor will be completed before the start of Term 2.  All teachers will ensure that the relocation of the classrooms will in no way disrupt the teaching programme for the children.

Both the building projects, the library complex and the senior classrooms will be opened in a ceremony with the children present early in Term 2.

125 Year Anniversary
This year, Epsom Normal is celebrating our 125 Year Anniversary.  We will be inviting dignitaries and past students to a garden party at the end of the year.  Further information on this event will be sent home during the year.

Warmest regards
