A few parents have mentioned that some children are being given ‘treat bags’ at school as part of birthday celebrations. These mostly contain sweets and we would suggest that this is not something we care to promote for health reasons. At present, the Ministry of Education is focusing on healthy eating at school. As part of this focus new regulations now cover how much ‘sugar and fat’ are in products accessed through school tuck shops. We feel it is prudent to ensure that our messages about healthy eating are consistent! Please keep ‘treat bags’ as something you do outside of school.
