‘Am I making positive connections in the world?’  is the 2010 Learning Theme

Kia Ora Tatou, Greetings to all

Dear Parents

I am a Performer
The students are thoroughly enjoying and learning about what it is to be a performer and are practising daily their items for the end of year production.  It is wonderful to see how talented your children are at acting, dancing and singing.  The production entitled ‘Museum Mayhem’ will be a celebration and showcase of your children’s talents.

Learning Theme for 2011
Staff have been released this term to plan curriculum programmes for next year.  A breakfast meeting was attended by 20 staff to decide on the overall learning theme and termly foci for 2011.  In our final newsletter for the year we will be able to inform you of our 2011 learning theme and the term foci.

Staff Up-date
Unfortunately at this time of the year we have staff who are leaving the school.

Shawn Creamer has resigned to move to Australia.  Shawn has been an excellent teacher, Assistant Principal and colleague.  Thank you to Shawn for being an inspirational teacher and leader.

Selina Kung has resigned to spend more time with her family and Amy Kelly has won a position at Howick Intermediate.  Thank you to both of you for your dedication to the students in the Senior School.  Thank you also to Fiona Murphy and Shoba Segar for picking up our new entrant classes in the middle of the year.  The students were very fortunate to have had you as their teachers.  We wish you well in your teaching careers.

New Staff for 2011
Corinna Raasch has been appointed as a Team Leader for Year 5 and Martha McFaul and Emily Withrington have been appointed to the senior area of the school.

In Week 10 a newsletter will inform you of the teacher placement for 2011.  You will also be informed of the class that your child will be in next year.

Student Participation
Just a reminder that our ukulele group will be performing at the National Ukulele Festival on 27 November 2010 at the Waitakere Stadium, Henderson.

The APPA choir will perform at the Town Hall on 1 December 2010.  Our chamber orchestra will also be performing as guest performers on the same night.

Student Achievement
Our student achievement data will be presented at the next BOT meeting.

Here is a lovely piece of writing from Amy, Room 19.

Gymnastics
Cool Tramp.  Bounce!  I bounced and bounced on the mini tramp.  Bouncy, bouncy.  Next, the springboard. Boing, boing, boing, as I bounced on the board.  Up and down I went, Wheee!!!  Down to the crash mat.

Gigantic, amazing, enormous, high beam.  Up I quickly went.  Up, up, up.  Balancing, teeth chattering, I felt that I was going to fall.  Finally I am at the end.  Yes, I have done it!  Bend down.  Jump up.  “Wheee,” I said when I went down.

Next I did a rolly polly with Mrs O’Shea.  Head Down.  Roll over.

Warmest regards

Jane Cavanagh-Eyre
