The Zones Swimming Competition

25 Mar by the Senior School

On Tuesday the 23rd of March 2010 the Zones swimmers went to St Kentigern School to compete against the other schools. It was like any other Tuesday but I was so excited, I woke up real early and couldn’t go back to sleep. After I put my togs and my ENPS navy tracksuit on I was ready to go. I was very nervous and had butterflies in my tummy but my Dad was accompanying me which made me feel a whole lot better! My teachers and friends were also very supportive. “Come on Jesslyn, bring some gold”, “Good luck Jesslyn,” they said.

When we arrived at the pools, fortunately, we had a gazebo to sit under- all thanks to Julia D! When the first heat had started we all took our tracksuits off and ran down to the marshalling area. “Silent on the beep!” said the lady who organised the competition. Off went the first heat! Swimmers were swimming as fast as they could! Everyone else was cheering them on.

My heat was the 3rd heat for the event. I was racing in the 25m Freestyle. I was shivering from the cold wind and I was so nervous I could hear my heart beating out of my chest. “On you marks…..BEEP!” As I kicked off and dived in, I could hear all my friends and my Dad cheering me on. I powered down the pool as fast as I could, doing my Freestyle- it’s my favourite stroke.

We had to wait a while for the team relays to start but when it did, my relay team which consisted of Caitlin, Julia Y, Sarah L and I headed to the starting point. Caitlin, who started us off, dived in. Miss Jackson who was our swimming coach broke into an explosive cheer. Everyone had to laugh!

In conclusion, it was a wonderful day at St Kentigern School and a day all ENPS swimmers will never forget! I would like to thank Miss Jackson for all the hard training she has done with us. Without her, the day would never have been as successful as it had been.
