Yes, this extravaganza of talent development is taking place on Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July. The students will find out this week which of their chosen workshops they have been placed in.
Earlier in the term, the students were surveyed to find out what talent they would like to explore/develop in a DOT workshop. This information was used by staff to determine exactly what they would offer the students.
The workshop leaders are planning fantastic opportunities from Being Spartacus, indulging in Football Fever, Having a Ball (the Venetian kind) and Broadcasting to the Nation. All the workshop blurbs are displayed in the library if you would like to have a look at them.
Some workshops plan to go off-site. These students will bring home a letter this week with information, request for parent help and a permission slip to return. Other workshops will also be making requests for materials and pairs of hands.
Encourage your children to dress “in role” for their workshop.
Annie Mills has a particular request…
‘I am looking for helpers who enjoy communication to help run the “Broadcast Yourself” workshop during the upcoming DOT Days. We will be using the Garage Band software programme to create pod casts. Experience with Garage Band is not essential, as long as you are reasonably confident with computers. I could use help on both days (June 30 and July 1) or for part of that time. If you are interested, please contact me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Kia Ora!’
Please be in touch for more information by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or phone 6305144 ext 703

Welcome to our library news page which will appear on our website very shortly in it’s own area.
Our aim is to provide pupils and parents with an update on activities in the library and share information on our comprehensive collection. Watch for reviews on novels that appeal to the reluctant and sophisticated reader.
We are fortunate to have a library that is an integral part of our learning.
The library provides;
• a dynamic and welcoming environment with displays featuring our learning focus for 2010;
• a wide variety of fiction, non fiction, graphic novels, sophisticated picture books and magazines;
• wireless internet and computer access to online research to support digital learning within the school and thereby developing confident and effective users of information;
• an area of enjoyment to escape into the world of science-fiction, adventure, humour, fantasy and poetry.
Hours
The library is open from 8.30am to 3.00pm daily including lunchtimes between 1.15pm to 1.45pm. Parents and pupils are welcome to borrow books on Thursdays between 3.00pm - 3.30pm.
In Term 2 students will have the opportunity to sit official NEW Zealand Chess Foundation (NZCF) tests. Those passing will earn badges and certificates for the levels achieved. There will be a fee of $6 if your child passes a test and wishes to receive the badge and certificate. All ENPS students may sit these tests.
The school championships will also begin in Term 2. This is a competition to find the best player at ENPS. This is part of the regular chess programme. New children are always welcome to join the chess club.
Please contact me on Friday lunchtimes or after school in Room 2 if you wish to join.
Regards

Hello and welcome back to ENPS. It is time for Scholastic book orders to commence for the year so included in this note is some important information regarding ordering.
Ordering books is not compulsory, however it is a great way to enhance your child’s reading. It also benefits the school library as the more books the students order, the more free books the school receives for the library. This also gives the children more choices when they borrow books during their library times. We benefited greatly last year, the library receiving about $2000 worth of free books. We hope the children enjoy all the new choices available to them.
This issue, Number 1, is due back at school by MONDAY 22 FEBRUARY 2010. NO LATE ORDERS.
For ease of processing, please make payment by CHEQUE OR CREDIT CARD to SCHOLAASTIC BOOK CLUB. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED – IT WILL BE RETURNED TO YOUR CHILD.
Please ensure that your order is clearly labelled in an envelope with your child’s name and Room number,
Thank you and happy ordering!
