The 2010 Fair will take place the last week of Term Four. The purpose of the fair is to raise funds for children who are in need, both here and overseas.
In 2009 we supported our overseas sponsored students, Child Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, Westpac Helicopter and families in Samoa.
As December is a busy time of the year it may be an opportune time over these holidays to have that great clean out of unwanted books, toys, games, puzzles, bric a brac, jewellery and accessories. We strongly request items must be of good quality and suitable for children.
If you wish to donate goods after the holidays please deliver to Room 12.
Your donations are most appreciated.
Thank you,
Paula Looker
Save the Children Fair Co-ordinator.
Week Ten will have lots of action at lunchtimes in the library to celebrate our special week of cultures and books.
Parents are welcome to attend with their children to listen, read stories, or just enjoy the atmosphere.
Remember the library is open on Thursdays after school for parents to visit and select books. We have had a number of parents visiting in the past few weeks with their children and this is a great way of connecting them with books.

On 15 September, Green Kiwis, Jayna, Anjali and Shanelle, planted Avocado trees! These were the last two trees to plant for our school’s fruit orchard. We dug two deep holes in the ground with Mr Jacka. We first cut off the plastic wrapping around the plant and then dropped a bit of recycled dried sheep poo into the hole in the ground! Next we put the Avocado plant inside the hole and we put the dirt back in it’s orginal place! As we were putting the dirt back in we noticed a couple of fat, juicy worms! That scared Jayna off. After we planted the trees we took the camera out and took some photos! Then we went back to Room 6 and Mrs Adlam gave us a bucket or two and put in some vitamin rich liquid called Thrive. It was a yellow sunshine colour! Then we took it to the avocado plants to water them! Anjali found a black baby spider and when I came up, she said “There’s a spider on my shoe!” That scared Jayna to death.

On Monday, 13 September, the Green Kiwis went on a short walk around local streets to form a timezone map. Two ladies from TravelWise came to help us. We separated into five groups and each group walked from the school in different directions. First, we walked for five minutes ; we stopped, took a photo, read our pedometers to see how many steps we had taken, then walked for another five minutes (which was now ten minutes from school). We stopped again, read our pedometers, took a photo, noted any landmarks then walked another five minutes. All in all, we walked for fifteen minutes. Finally we returned to school. It was fun!
This information will be compiled by the TravelWise staff to produce a map. This timezone map will be on display outside our new library.

On Tuesday, all of the children in the Senior School were involved in the Remuera Zone Winter Field Day. Children competed against other schools in tournaments of their sporting codes - Netball, Soccer, Rugby and Hockey.
The children were bused to several locations around Auckland and they played on some amazing all weather turfs. The weather held on for us and was lovely for most of the day. Our children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had many successes.
Thanks to all the staff and student teachers for their efforts on the day, and to all the parents/families that come to support their children and Epsom Normal Primary School.
Mrs. Boyte
Last Friday Epsom Normal School had six senior students compete in the Auckland Champions of Champions Gymnastics Competition. This competition is extremely tough with the best of each zone in Auckland competing against each other.
Our children had a fantastic day and performed beautifully. Well done to Monique, Stella, Claudia, Yalda, Luke and William for your hard work and enthusiasm towards your gymnastics this year.
Congratulations to William for achieving 8th Place Overall in the Year 6 Boys Competition!
